1. Garden of Medicinal Plants
In today’s jig–jag life style, a person isbound to have a lot of health problems, forcing him or her to visit frequentlyto the doctors and hence the individual has to bear accountable loss of moneyand time. The excess and prolonged intake of various medicines is liable toproduce harmful side effects which may create new problems entangling a personamongst doctor, medicine, tension, anxiety and loss of money. It is well knownfrom historic times that there are a number of plants available nearby whichcure effectively a lot of medical problems without side effects at a very lowexpenses, and at the same time to enhance the understanding of studentsregarding the study of plants. Keeping this in mind, the college developed aGarden of Medicinal Plants and planted a variety of Medicinal Plants inthe campus itself to provide a valuable knowledge to the students, staff andcitizens and to get benefitted from these Medicinal Plants.
2. Goal
To provide a valuable knowledge of variousproperties of Medicinal Plants to the students, staff and citizens, to getbenefitted from these Medicinal Plants, and cure most of the common diseaseswithout side effects and thus avoid frequent visits to the doctors and live apeaceful life.
3. Context
Most of the persons are suffering from oneor other disease and spend their time and money by visiting the doctors. Theprescribed allopathic medicines, many a time produce side effects which in turncreate a new problem, in other words – a cycle of problems. We know that manyplants have medicinal properties but we rarely use them to cure medicalproblems.
It is well thought by the college that ifwe provide some additional inputs regarding the medicinal properties of theplants available nearby to the students, staff and citizens, it will be ofgreat help to the them and at the same time quenches the sentiments of staffand students of college as far as the thought ‘pay back to the society’ isconcerned.
4. The Practice
The college has developed Medicinal Garden inthe campus. All the activities like arrangement of seeds, plants,fertilizers, tools and tackles, watering facilities, selection of medicinalplants have been done by the students and staff with great enthusiasm. Helpfrom local experts has also been sought. The college has sowed initiallyfollowing

5. Evidence of Success –
An exhibition of medicinal plants wasorganized on 06.08.2015 by the science faculty of the college. The informationregarding the medicinal plants, their properties and importance, common andscientific names, and place of availability was provided to students, staff andcitizens.
The exhibition was inaugurated by shriAshok Sharma, former President, Civil Supplies Corporation, Govt. ofChhattisgarh. The other dignitaries present were Shri Vivek Sahu, ChairmanMahavidhayala Janbhagidari Samiti, and the guests – ShriSanjay Laduwan, Shri Devsharan sen, Dr. Hemlata Mohabe, Pro. R.P. Dixit werealso present. The presence of Shri Rajesh Pandey, Principal, Govt. KamalaDevi Mahila Mahavidhalaya, Rajnandgaon and Dr. R.N.Singh Principal, Govt.Digvijay Mahavidhalaya, Rajnandgaon boosted the morale of thestudents and staff.
A large number of students and employeesfrom other schools and institutions, old students, esteemed citizens and pressreporters of various newspapers visited the exhibition.
The college is planning to grow moremedicinal plants and more exhibitions in future.
6. Problem Encountered and Resources required-
As such, the college did not face any majorproblem except the collection of various medicinal plants. All the resourcesrequired for the medicinal garden were arranged by the students and staff. Allthe activities like arrangement of seeds, plants, fertilizers, tools andtackles, watering facilities, selection of medicinal plants have been done bythe students and staff with high enthusiasm. Help from local experts has alsobeen sought.
